December 2011 latest: We have now installed a 10kW array of photovoltaic (PV) cells on the roof thanks partly due to a supporting grant from the NatureSave Trust. These will help to reduce the carbon footprint of the Hall and produce a very useful income from the ‘Feed in Tariff', making the Hall more sustainable in the years to come. We were able to beat the government deadline to achieve the maximum income before they substantially reduced the Feed in Tariff. Another change in government policy meant that some funds promised for the PV cells were deemed no longer eligible. We were however able to pay the bill out of existing funds though this has reduced our balance and will cause delay to the provision of curtains or blinds (the need for these was apparent at the Christmas bazaar when the afternoon sunlight through the new doors blinded the stall holders at the opposite wall). Some additional work is needed on the felt at the lower end of the roof but this will be funded from the money kept aside for maintenance requirements.
Village Hall Improvements: The old heating system has now been replaced with a new air-to-air heat source pump. An independent heating consultant recommended this as being the one best suited to our requirements. The cost of the new heating was funded entirely from grants received from Cemex and Awards for All.
The back wall of the Hall has now been opened up to give access to the back garden via double glazed doors, and a patio has been constructed.
This is the improvement which was most strongly requested in the Parish Plan Questionnaire. The amount of light in the Hall has now improved dramatically. In addition we have an outdoor space for functions and a much safer place for children to play. The cost of this work was funded from Village Hall funds together with generous donations from many Doynton residents. Many thanks to those who helped us achieve this - either through direct donations or by supporting our fund raising efforts!
The next two projects are to fit blinds and or curtains and improve the path leading to the garden. After that we plan to update the lighting and the toilet facilities. The cost of these projects will be assessed in the next year. We hope to be able to use the £7,500 of grant money we were promised for the PV cells and are still looking at various fundraising options.
